We always share news from the HIMSS annual conference, but this year was one for big announcements.

Here’s what we did at the show to further our vision of a Connected Community of HealthTM:

1. Grew the Allscripts family with two strategic acquisitions

Jardogs employees pleased to join the Allscripts family

Upon learning about the acquisition, Jardogs employees Jim Hewitt and John Pacione, give two thumbs up

Welcome to the family, dbMotion and Jardogs.  These two leading healthcare technology companies will help provide solutions that enable our clients to address some of their biggest challenges: population health management, interoperability and consumer engagement.

Reaction to these acquisitions from investors, clients and media has been overwhelmingly positive. One analyst remarked that acquiring two familiar assets will help Allscripts, with dbMotion’s installed base in particular already executing on our connected community strategy.

2. Co-Founded an industry partnership

CommonWell Alliance

Representatives from McKesson, athenaHealth, Allscripts, Greenway Medical Technologies and Cerner announce CommonWell Health Alliance at HIMSS 2013 (co-founder not pictured RelayHealth)

We’re a founding member of the CommonWell Health Alliance, a not-for-profit that supports universal access to healthcare data. It’s an association of top healthcare IT providers with a common goal to improve outcomes while reducing costs. Our participation signals our commitment to interoperability and Open platforms.

The news generated a lot of attention, including articles in Forbes, InformationWeek Healthcare and ModernHealthcare.com.

3, Awarded 15 awesome apps

Crowd gathers at HIMSS 2013 to learn results of Allscripts Open App Challenge, Phase 1

A big crowd gathered to watch Allscripts Chief Innovation Officer, Stanley Crane, introduce the 15 Open App Challenge Phase 1 award recipients.

We granted $150,000 to 15 award recipients at the close of Phase 1 of the Allscripts Open App Challenge. Our judges had some tough decisions to make as they chose solutions from innovators on a mission to improve healthcare.  From engaging at-risk diabetes patients to improving the way doctors communicate about patients, these apps will help transform healthcare.

One of the most encouraging signs that the industry is ready for a revolution? The booth was packed. Hundreds turned out to hear the announcement and learn more about the latest innovations in healthcare apps.

4.       Changing the game in revenue cycle

There was a lot of excitement in the booth around live demos of our new revenue cycle solution, Sunrise Financial Manager™. While the focus in healthcare has been on regulatory compliance, clients are now looking for a flexible foundation built to handle financial requirements driven by changes in the industry. Bronx-Lebanon recently selected Sunrise Financial Manager to manage revenue across its 564-bed system.

In particular, booth visitors are excited about the workflow possibilities of Sunrise Financial Manager.  They asked a lot of questions about our bundled payments and ACO capabilities which competitors do not offer as part of their solutions.

5.       Inspiring others with great client outcomes

Allscripts Social Media Wall at HIMSS 2013

For each client that shared an outcome at HIMSS, Allscripts will donate $10 to each respondent’s choice of American Heart Association, American and Canadian Cancer Societies or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Our clients accomplish great outcomes every day. We went social at HIMSS 2013 and asked the healthcare community for its thoughts on Open and Allscripts. Responses were great, including:

“What does Open mean to you?” Unrestricted access that allows amazing apps and ideas to leverage the Allscripts ecosystem.  – Nathan Dunn, CEO, Plus Location Systems

“How have you benefited by using Allscripts?” We have built new systems that improve outcomes, enhance communication, and open opportunities. Dirk Stanley, MD, MPH, CMIO, Cooley Dickinson Hospital
